FLOODING CRISIS

In the early days of the crisis we provided provisions to a place of shelter established to assist those residents left without mains water or electricity. Later members also assisted in door to door visits the ensure that those vulnerable people who could not make their way to the shelter received appropriate assistance.

Later, as the flood waters receded, we moved into stage two in assisting our local residents to overcome some of the affects of the flooding

The club has now completed its deliveries to the 25 families who were considered to be suffering the most extreme hardship. Most have been provided with a cooker, refrigerator and washing machine. In other cases we have provided bedding.

In parallel with this, club members have continued to help other families clean their homes and where necessary loan dehumidifiers to speed up the drying process.

The picture right shows Lion President Jim "assisting" with a delivery whilst on the left Lions Geoff rehearses his domestic skills.

It has been particularly pleasing that we have been able to get out into our community, establish the need and allocate our funds so quickly. This has only been possible due to the tremendous financial support received from Lions Clubs nationwide. Their donations had boosted our funds by over £21,000 within days of the severity of the flooding becoming apparent and we give them our thanks.

Particular mention must be made of Seaton Lions Club whose donation of £2104 was the first received.

When ever the Lions members collect locally, whether for local causes or international disasters Gloucester residents invariable give generously. It is nice therefore to find that in their time of need other Lions Clubs had felt able to reciprocate that support in a like manner.
