Who are the lions?

All Lions are members of Lions Clubs International, a community service organisation dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. Local Clubs are part of the world's largest such organisation, with 1.4 million members serving in some 193 countries. The Association is truly international with no religious or political affiliations of any description

In Gloucester the club currently comprises of 15 like-minded men and women from different walks of life. They are united in their desire to give some of their free time to help those both young and old who are less fortunate than themselves. The majority of time given, and money raised is spent in the Gloucester area. All monies raised are spent on Charitable purposes – none is used on Administration.

What do Lions do?

The principal aim of Lions Clubs is to provide help and funds to those in need, whilst members are able to enjoy the satisfaction, fellowship and fun that can be derived from taking part.  Lions Clubs are dedicated to improving the quality of life for those less fortunate people in our community.  In a typical year some 90% of the money we raise is spent locally.

Locally, within the last year:

Gloucester Lions Club has supported 36 local families, individuals or groups.

Gloucester Lions Club has provided 42food parcels for needy families at Christmas.

Gloucester Lions Club has run Race Nights on behalf of numerous organisations including Cotswold Hospital Radio and Family Haven as well as ourselves.

Gloucester Lions Club has continued to run a Quiz for Junior school pupils. For more information visit Schools Quiz.

For the last 28 years, members have participated in the  annual Sightsavers Malvern Hills sponsored walk raising sufficient funds to provide an eye camp in a third world country each year

On the National and International front:
